Whats new in ArtCAM 2008?

New Modeling Enhancements

Relief Layer Thumbnails

To simplify the process of working with multi-layered models the Relief Layer Manager now includes thumbnail images of each relief layer. By hovering over the thumbnail a larger version pop-ups, which can be selected to edit the layer.

Vector Shape Creation Speed-ups

The vector shape creation process is now more than twice as fast as previously, and up to 25 times faster than in version 9.

Bitmap to Vector Tool

All of the settings associated with the Vectors from Bitmap dialog box have now been consolidated onto a single page displayed in the Assistant window. You can now also calculate a vector centreline from all areas of the bitmap layer in the current Primary Colour, together with those colours that are linked to the Primary Colour. This is particularly useful for calculating a centreline from bitmap images of text.

3D Twiddling

ArtCAM now utilises the advancements in 3D graphics hardware to provide faster and smoother 3D model manipulation.

Lock Sculpting above a Plane

Within the sculpting tools you can now define a 'safe height' below which you can't sculpt or damage your existing model. This is an important control for work that needs to be precisely specified in terms of the available Z range for modelling.

2D Colour Mapping & Shape Creation Directly from the 3D View

The Colour Shade button has been enhanced to toggle a projection of the currently selected bitmap image over the top of the 3D relief. With this mode switched on, colours can be picked directly from the surface of the 3D relief and used for shape creation.

Revised Primary/Secondary Colours

The default Colour Palette, found beneath the 2D View window, has now been changed to have black as the Primary Colour and white as the Secondary Colour.

Extrude, Spin & Turn

New Assistant pages have replaced the previous wizards to simplify many of the common uses of these tools.
