Whats new in ArtCAM 2008?

Machining Enhancements

Automatic Machining Boundary

Automatic Boundary allows the tool to machine as close as possible to the model given the individual tool geometry.

Feature Machining

Feature creation and toolpath settings have been consolidated onto a single page, thus streamlining the overall process. Foot sharpening has also been added to the toolpath.

Toolpath Transform Tools

Even after toolpaths have been created they can now be repositioned, rotated or duplicated. 2D Toolpaths can be transformed interactively using the mouse to drag the vector within the 2D view automatically updating the 3D view. All toolpaths, including full 3D toolpaths, can also be accurately positioned using the new ‘nudge’ tools.
Toolpaths can also be laid onto the underlying relief using either a simple projection or drop tool option.

Z-Level Roughing

ArtCAM can now automatically calculate the start and final slice z values using either the material block or the composite relief.

V-Carving Speed-Up

Improvements to the core algorithm have resulted in dramatic speed increases in both the toolpath calculation time, and resulting cutting time.

Smart Engraving Speed-Up

New enhancements to the Smart Engraving function have now made it between 2-10 times faster to calculate the resulting toolpaths.  With fewer ‘air moves’ cutting times have also been dramatically reduced.

Bridge Location Preserved

Bridge locations are now preserved after your 2D toolpaths are re-calculated. This means that if you need to make changes to your toolpath at anytime you no longer have to re-enter them.

Drilling Plunge Clearance

When creating drill holes, you can now define the height above the material block at which you want your cutting tool to make the transition from the rapid rate to the plunge rate.

Toolpath Feed Rate Optimization

With the new ‘Optimize Feed Rates’ option in the Batch calculate toolpaths dialog box, ArtCAM can now set higher feed rates for lighter cuts and air moves, speeding up the machining process.
